Standard Optical: Eyewear Trends

Aaron Schubach, vice president of Standard Optical, visits Studio 5 and talks about eyewear trends as well as the finest of materials that go into making an outstanding product for both your vision and great fashion.

Eyewear Trends Look for large and thick frames, with less "bling," leather-wrapped temples, zirconium titanium (new blend materials), color in-lays, less large branding and bright colors. Incidentally, did you know that men's collections are more conservative than women's?

Schubach Originals The line is designed by fourth generation Aaron Schubach of the founding Schubach family. The line consists of 60 different frames with 20 of those styles available in three colors each. Of the 20 styles, 14 are women's pieces, three are men's and three are unisex. Pieces are composed of Japanese metal and titanium and handmade Italian plastics. Schubach Originals are sold at all Standard Optical locations across the state.

About Handmade Plastic Frames Most inexpensive plastic frames are mass stamped or molded and are limited to containing only one color per frame. But Mazzuchelli (which makes Schubach Originals frames) creates its plastics with cellulose acetate orzyl (zile), which can be laminated together and make 2-3 different colors per frame. Mazzuchelli is known for the best quality zyl with more than 1500 color combinations available. Most Schubach plastics contain 2-3 different colors.
