Celebrate everyday objects.
You have to have a plate for every guest anyway, so why not use it to decorate? You can add a
charger underneath or vary the plates for pattern. A grand pedestal for a simple salt and pepper
shaker set is another way to use necessary items for décor. The options are limitless when you
appreciate the beauty in everyday objects.
Decorate with one strong color.
If you pick a dominant color, you don’t have to spend a bunch on specialty décor items. For
example, if you’re setting a Christmas table, using all red items (regardless if their Christmas items or
not) gives a strong sense of Christmas. You can group items of the same color with no other
relation and they appear to match.
Make it personal.
Anything you can do to make your guests feel welcome and special adds to a gathering, but
incorporating this idea into your table takes care of two concerns. Use a place setting as an
opportunity to seat people and give them a small keepsake of the gathering. It can be something as
small as a sugar cookie with a monogram or a Christmas ornament with a name tag.
