Saving Money With Programable Thermostats

Tony Oakman, from Lee’s Heating & Air Conditioning says a simple programmable thermostat can save you plenty of money.

-If you’re looking for a quick and inexpensive way to save money on your utility bills year-round, have Lee’s Heating and Air install a programmable thermostat in your home for the special price of just $59.

-The programmable thermostats that Lee’s is installing all carry the Energy Star sticker. This means that Lee’s thermostats meet strict federal standards for energy- saving devices. A lot of people may have seen the Energy Star sticker on a lot of products recently, without really knowing what the sticker means. The Energy Star sticker means that these products meet strict energy efficiently guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.

-According to the U.S Department of Energy, an Energy Star thermostat can save the average-sized home (approximately 2,400 square-feet) about $180 per year. Plus, keep in mind, that a programmable thermostat is a one-time investment. So, if you take advantage of Lee’s special price of just $59, you’ll more than re-coup that investment in just a few short months, and the savings will just continue. Plus, most experts agree that energy prices in the future will continue to rise—so your savings could be even more over the long term.

-Replacing the thermostat is one of the top three things the Department of Energy says will save the most while spending the least.

-Not all programmable thermostats are created equal. If you purchased a thermostat that doesn’t carry the Energy Star sticker, there’s a good chance that your thermostat isn’t very precise or accurate. In fact, these thermostats could be off by two, three or more degrees. That may not sound like much, but even this small amount could cost you a lot of money each year in utility bills.

Plus, if your thermostat isn’t accurate, it probably means that your furnace and air conditioning system is having to work a lot harder than it normally would.

-A programmable thermostat is simple to use, and after you’ve programmed it, you may not have to worry about it again for some time. Simply stated, a programmable thermostat lets you set the time of day when you won’t be in your home in order to make the most efficient use of your furnace and air conditioning system. If your schedule changes for a day or two, it just takes a simple push of the button to adjust the temperature.

-Typically, the optimum variance in temperature on a programmable thermostat is about five degrees. This makes optimum use of your furnace or air conditioning system.

If you have a manual thermostat, and turn it way down when you’re not around, and then turn it back to its normal setting when you return, you may be causing your system to work way too hard to bring the temperature back to your favorite comfort level. If a furnace or air conditioning system has to work to bring a temperature up by say, 10 degrees, you could actually be wasting energy and causing unnecessary wear and tear on your system.

-If anyone calls Lee’s right now at 747-LEES to take advantage of the $59 programmable thermostat offer, we’ll also provide a 12-point furnace inspection at no cost. The inspection includes the potentially life-saving carbon monoxide test. It’s so important to get a carbon monoxide test even if you have carbon monoxide detectors in your home. Believe it or not, in some instances, a carbon monoxide detector may not be able to alert you about possible dangers until it’s too late.

-Lee’s special offer of $59 to installing a programmable thermostat, plus the 12-point furnace inspection, is a $250 value. You can’t even buy a really good Energy Star thermostat and install it yourself for $59.
