Elegant Decorative Pumpkins

When you think of Halloween decorating it wouldn’t quite be complete without a good ‘ol carved jack-o-lantern! But, carving and cleaning the pumpkin seems to be so much trouble. Jennifer Heslop shares some great family friendly pumpkin decorating ideas that are fun and simple but pack a big punch!

Directions for Doily Stenciled Pumpkin


1. Prime pumpkin with latex primer. Paint pumpkin desired color.

2. Cut-out center of paper doily. Place around pumpkin’s stem. Hold doily in place using straight pins.

3. Using a stencil brush or sponge, load brush or sponge with paint, blot excess paint from brush. Using a “pouncing” motion, apply paint over doily stencil.

4. Remove pins and doily stencil.

5. Allow to dry.

Directions for Mod-podge Pumpkin

1. Cut light-weight paper into 1 inch squares.

2. Coat small section of pumpkin with mod-podge or white glue. Adhere paper to pumpkin. Add a layer of mod-podge or glue over paper.

3. Work until entire pumpkin is covered. Cover with a final coat of mod-podge.

4. Allow to dry and embellish with ribbon, pearls, etc.

Directions for Frosted Pumpkin


1. Using a bottle of white dimensional paint, apply design to pumpkin. Follow grooves of stem and pumpkin. Add snowflakes and small dots. Work quickly before paint dries.

2. While paint is wet, sprinkle with white glitter over painted areas. Let dry and brush off excess glitter.
