These simple updos elevate your everyday hairstyles.
Between school pickups, spring sports, work, all the things that have us on the go a little more right now… we often just whip our hair into a ponytail to get out of the way. We’re taking our hair game up a notch with easy elevated ponytails, braids, and buns perfect for spring and summer.
McCall Monson shared simple updos that will make it look like you totally tried, even if you totally didn’t.
Watch each style demonstrated in the video above.
Elevated Summer Braid
- Take the top third of your hair and secure it with an elastic.
- Make a small space at the top of the secured section.
- Flip the hair towards the head and through the space.
- Loosen the elastic and flip the sections above the elastic over each other horizontally, left side over the right. You should create a small space to pull the rest of the hair through.
- Gather the hair underneath and pull it through to secure the braid.
- Separate the remaining hair into three strands and braid it as usual.
Messy Bun
- Start with the first two steps of the elevated braid by pulling the top half of your hair through an elastic.
- Make another elastic just under the first one and stop pulling the hair through on the last loop to create a half bun.
- Separate the remaining hair into two sections, bring them up and around the bun, and secure with a small elastic at the top.
- Cross the two strands over each other (similar to step four of the elevated braid), pull the bun through the space, and tuck the leftover hair into the first elastic.
- Use bobby pins to secure the bun if needed, but it can also be left messy and effortless.
Elevated Wrapped Ponytail
- Start with a regular ponytail.
- Take another elastic, pinch it together, and thread it through the first elastic.
- Take a piece of hair and wrap it around the first elastic.
- Pull the wrapped hair through the loop on the top of the second elastic.
- Pull down on the elastic loop on the bottom to tuck the hair behind the first elastic, hiding it and creating a polished look.
