The ‘Best Mom’ award goes to… 4 cute ways to craft up Mother’s Day awards

The best mom deserves an award!

This time of year, we celebrate the women who hold it all together. The moms and nanas who wipe the tears, give pep talks, rides, and hugs that fix everything. Moms do the very most, and most of the time, without recognition. So we’re saying it loud and clear: moms deserve a medal! What better way to honor your motherly hero than with something homemade?

Celeste Whitney shared four creative projects kids (and grown-ups!) can make to show mom she’s truly a champion.

Here are four fun ways to craft a special award for mom:

  1. Make Mom a Medal
Every good medal needs three elements: a ribbon “stem,” a pendant or charm to serve as the medal, and a way to attach it together. Kids can personalize the medal by choosing charms that represent mom’s hobbies or favorite things. “It’s a sweet little piece she can wear or display to remind her how loved she is,” Celeste explained.
  2. Craft a Prize Ribbon
A prize ribbon uses many of the same details as a medal, just arranged differently. Think layered ribbon loops, a circular badge center, and long tails hanging down. It feels official, like something you’d win at the fair.
  3. Build a Trophy
Take it up a notch with a handmade trophy! Celeste showed how to glue a wooden base, a small peg doll representing mom, and fun decorative touches to create a mini statue. It’s a playful way to say mom’s a winner in every category.
  4. Create a Champion’s Sash
Finally, you can turn a wide ribbon into a sash fit for the queen of the house. Pair it with a paper crown, and you’ve got a Mother’s Day moment worthy of a parade.

“Moms go to heroic lengths for us every single day,” Celeste said. “Even if they don’t get a badge of honor, we can still show them they’re number one in our hearts.”
