These vintage trends are back in a modern way!
We’ve seen our fair share of comebacks recently. Our kids and grandkids are loving styles from our past, but this summer, the spotlight is shifting even further back. We are taking on some true vintage charm where the classic elements like polka dots, pleats, and embroidery are reimagined with a fashion forward twist.
Jessica Christensen shared five retro throwbacks that are making a big comeback this summer.
Juicy Fruits
Jessica said the fruit print is her favorite trend of the summer. From cherries to lemons and even vegetables, these playful prints are appearing on everything from skirts to dresses. “It just gives a little pop to a basic white skirt,” she said, highlighting how these details add charm and personality.
Polka Dots and Pleats
Polka dots and pleats are coming back in a big way. “Polka dots are having a major, major moment this year,” Jessica noted. ”We wore them in the eighties. They were popular in the fifties. They just are classic and chic.”
When paired with pleats, the look becomes both edgy and elegant. “Polka dots can sometimes look a little juvenile,” she admitted, but pairing them with neutral fabrics and contemporary tops makes them more sophisticated.
Market Fresh
Jessica described this trend as evoking the feel of a little Italian supermarket. Think sundresses adorned with fruit and floral prints, paired with crochet cardigans and raffia ballet flats. “It throws you back in time to a simpler time,” she said, emphasizing the nostalgic charm of this look.
Tapestry Fabrics
Tapestry fabrics are no longer just for upholstery. “Tapestry used to be for grandmothers, but now it’s cool and edgy,” Jessica explained.
The key is in the styling—like a floral tapestry pattern on a denim jumpsuit in matching tones. “It makes it elevated and doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a pillow,” she emphasized.
Embroidery
Embroidery is another standout trend, especially when it adds texture and fun to basics. “To a basic button down shirt we add 3D embroidered strawberries. I mean, could you get any cuter?” Jessica asked. Paired with red sneakers and strawberry-themed accessories, embroidery brings a playful yet polished vibe to summer outfits.
