Here are some great ideas to customize your home:
1) When you have high ceilings, create a great effect by putting fake beams and copper sheets on the ceiling.
2) To create an unusual conversation piece around your fireplace, find a rusted i-beam and place it over the mantel.
3) Many refrigerator manufacturers provide wood-looking panels, such as walnut, to create a wood look to match your kitchen cabinets to your refrigerator, thus creating a wood look over your entire kitchen.
4) In the bedroom, “recess” your plasma-screen television into the wall as well as your fireplace.
5) Give your two-or-three-car garage a “covered porch” look. It gives the garage a distinctive carriage-style look.
6) Look for good outdoor “grounds” or property: You can fix the inside of your home, but you can’t fix a bad lot.
7) Build a “downhill” house on an “uphill” lot and create an interesting placement with your home on the lot.
8) To create a great effect on handrails, use rebar under the handrail and twist it to look like twigs. Great for a western feel to your room.
9) In the living room, use a covered deck outside to protect your indoors from the sun.
10) Give your living room a more formal look — even if your stereo and TV are there — by hiding the units behind beautiful panels.
11) Add warm colors such as gold and caramels to your master bath to give the feel of a spa
12) In your kitchen, use decorative nails on wooden cabinets to add a distinctive look
13) Combine a large suede pillow with satin sheets in your bedroom for a different look … then get a great view to make the room feel like a “retreat” right in your own home.
