Comfort food casserole. Easy to make one-dish-meal for dinner tonight or the church potluck supper.
1 pound lean ground beef
1 package (0.87 oz) brown gravy mix
1 cup water
1 1/2 cups shredded cheese
2 cans (7.5 oz) refrigerator biscuits
Ketchup, mustard, pickles, lettuce, tomato, onion (optional)
Preheat oven to 450 F.
Brown ground beef.* Remove from heat, drain off excess fat; stir in gravy mix and water (mixture will not be thickened at this point). Top with shredded cheese. Arrange refrigerator biscuits on top of meat. Bake 12-15 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown and juices from filling are bubbling around biscuits.
Serve with lettuce, tomato, onion slice, ketchup, mustard, and pickles. Dish is also great reheated. Serves 6.
NOTES:
* It is preferred to use a 10″x2″ oven proof skillet for this recipe. If skillet is not available, brown meat then transfer ingredients to a 2-qt casserole dish or 9×13 pan for baking.
Season ground beef as you would for homemade hamburgers. Experiment with own gravy or thickening, barbecue sauce, or sloppy joe mix.
To reduce sodium content of recipe, prepare homemade biscuits with reduced salt.
