These old-school clothing brands are popular again!
You might have noticed a retail renaissance is underway. Brands that have been previously pushed to the back of the closet are showing up in fresh, reinvented ways.
Studio 5 Trend Tracker Mindy Dunyon called out which familiar brand names are crushing it and why.
Hollister
Hollister is back and thriving, especially among Gen Z. “They are known… for kind of that laid back California vibe,” Mindy said. Thanks to TikTok, the brand’s oversized, layered looks are trending again.
Their wide leg fleece pants are so popular, they’re often sold out. “You have to watch it and when they come in stock, grab those,” Mindy advised.
Abercrombie & Fitch
Abercrombie & Fitch has undergone a major transformation. “They’re kind of known for their body positive branding and imaging,” Mindy noted. The brand is now embracing diversity and comfort.
Their mid-rise barrel jeans are a hot item, though often hard to find in stock.
Old Navy
Old Navy is winning fans with its clean, minimalist style. “People do love their denim,” Mindy said, but one standout item is the swing shirt dress.
It’s a versatile piece, and is available in tall sizes. It’s perfect for everything from errands to poolside lounging. “Their style has sort of started to tip J. Crew,” she observed, noticing a shift toward a more polished, boutique aesthetic.
J. Crew
Under new leadership, J. Crew is experiencing a stylish revival. “They are kind of swinging back to that really coastal, preppy vibe,” Mindy explained.
Known for high-quality pieces, J. Crew’s dresses, like their lace trim dress, are detailed and timeless. “You are going to spend a little bit more at J. Crew, but often it’s worth it,” she said.
Carter’s
Carter’s remains a staple for moms, but with a modern twist. “They’re really diversifying with more modern, aesthetically pleasing silhouettes,” Mindy shared.
While some collections still feature logos and animals, others offer simpler styles, like their ribbed sets, that appeal to parents seeking a cleaner look. “People love them for their basics,” she added.
