Cosmetic Treatments for Men

Dr. Steve Jepson breaks down three of the most popular procedures for men.

When we think of cosmetic medical procedures, we tend to think that it’s a female preoccupation. But more men are starting to jump on the cosmetic bandwagon as well, as the more non-invasive procedures have become so popular. Here are the three most common procedures being sought out by men at my clinic:

1. Facial veins/redness. Men typically don’t seem to care too much about fine wrinkles and overall skin texture compared to women. But they do seem to be bothered by broken capillaries and the associated facial redness. This problem generally comes from years of sun exposure, andsince men are far less likely to wear sunscreen than women are, men often have more of a problem with facial redness than women do. Furthermore, women can cover their redness with makeup; men can’t. This problem is easily remedied by laser treatments. Usually more than one treatment is required to fix the problem, but the treatments are fast and usually not associated with significant downtime.

2. Botox. More and more men are turning to Botox to help give their face a more relaxed and youthful appearance. When I started offering Botox several years ago, I very seldom would see a male client. Now I often have husbands and wives coming in together to get their injections. The procedure really has gained increased acceptance by men. I even started injecting myself a couple of years ago. The two most popular areas for Botox injections in men are the crow’s feet wrinkles around the eyes, and the horizontal lines across the forehead. Botox gently relaxes the muscles that cause those wrinkles, without really significantly affecting the ability to express yourself. The procedures itself is quick and easy with very minimal discomfort – all of which appeal to men.

3. CoolSculpting by Zeltiq. Even men that are in great shape sometimes have love handles that don’t seem to go away. But men are far less likely than women to seek out the help of liposuction to take away that fat away. Let’s face it – men really are wimps compared to women when it comes to pain. And most men generally can’t afford to miss a lot of work recovering from the more invasive surgical procedures. So the newer non-invasive body contouring technologies, such as CoolSculpting, are finding increased popularity with men. Men likeCoolSculptingbecause there really isn’t any significant pain associated with the procedure, and there isn’t any downtime (they can be back to work in the afternoon after a morning treatment). CoolSculptingis a great solution to help men get rid of those love handles. It freezes the fat without affecting the skin or other surrounding tissues. Then over a 2-3 month period of time following the procedure, the damaged fat cells slowly dissolve away. More information on this popular procedure can be found at www.UtahZeltiq.com
