You don’t have to be good at sewing to quilt.
Call it a creative reset, a return to roots, or simply time well spent. Quilting proves that slowing down can be seriously rewarding.
Cami Fuller explains why she’s gravitated to the hobby.
Cami considers herself an “advanced beginner,” and is proof that anyone can quilt. You just need a few things to get started.
- A sewing machine. You do not need to have a fancy sewing machine to sew. All you need is the ability to do a straight stitch.
- A cutting mat. This is really a necessity to be able to cut your fabrics straight.
- A rotary cutter.
- Fabric rulers.
- Thread.
- A bin to keep all your tools and fabrics in.
- A pattern.
Another reason to consider quilting is the community. Local shops have classes and quilt nights. You can also create quilting groups where you share what you’re making, get tips and help, and make friendships.
