Crossfit Training Trend in Utah

Damon Stewart is a coach and instructor at Wasatch Crossfit in Layton and shows what the workout is all about.

What makes CrossFit different from a regular gym program?

* With CrossFit, every session, group or individual, will have a qualified coach with you. Not just there for motivation but to guide and coach you through each and every exercise throughout your training session. We also offer nutritional counseling.

* Every workout is different, you don’t repeat workouts more than about once every 6 weeks.

* The CrossFit methods are designed and based on increasing functional movements and fitness, which will help in everyday life. Rather than spending your valuable time in the gym concentrating on isolated exercises assisted by machines, you can be in and out within 30mins working at a much higher intensity and gaining even greater results. We believe that a Grandmother & a Navy Seal both benefit from training for the unexpected, they just use different weights and intensity levels.

* CrossFit feels more like a community than a gym. The staff and members will be sweating, grunting and achieving their goals right there with you. There to challenge you, there to motivate you and there to help you every step of the way, pushing each other to greater limits than you thought possible. There’s no culture of “pretty people” in Crossfit. It’s about real people training like an athlete to achieve amazing results.

Regarding Wasatch Crossfit

Here at Wasatch Crossfit we’re all about truth and results. By constantly varying your workouts with intense functional movement you’ll get amazing results. The truth is that workouts that isolate your body parts are mostly ineffective and typically are boring. Crossfit is done in the supportive company of friends and family rather than in an impersonal atmosphere. The workout changes every day. Crossfit is also revolutionary because it trains us for the unexpected. We don’t just work cardio and strength. We also train stamina, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy. Our goal is for you to be to fit, lean, and ready for anything life can throw out you from playing football with your kids in the yard to doing your first triathlon to helping pick up your neighbor’s piano.

The exercises we use were born out of Olympic weight lifting, gymnastics and track and field, since world class coaches have spent years honing the skill development of these exercises to make them safe to do at full intensity. Although many of the elite use these exercises to compete, we lower the loads and teach the movements to our members so they can gain the huge benefit that they instill.
CrossFit was created by Greg Glassman, a former gymnast, and for many years existed in only a single gym in Santa Cruz, California. Today, there are more than 1000 CrossFit affiliates around the U.S and on every continent except Antartica. CrossFit workouts meet the needs of all ages and levels of fitness, and are also used by many police and fire departments, US Navy SEALs, US Army Special Forces.

We were the first of many Crossfit facilities in Utah and are located right next to Layton High School. Everything you do at WCF will be under the watchful eyes of a trained coach. The proof is in the pudding. We have Mom’s with four kids who can do 90 pullups in ten minutes who came in barely able to hang on to the bar. They train right alongside Special Forces soldiers and all different types of people having fun getting fit
