DIY Slushy

Make your own version of this classic summertime drink.

Classic Cherry Slushy
2 cups of ice (pebbled works best)

1 cup lemon-lime soda

1 heaping Tablespoon presweetened cherry Kool-Aid powder

Put the ice and soda in the blender and pulse until ice chunks are smooth. Add in the
Kool-Aid powder and blend until slushy. Be careful to only blend until the powder has
mixed in throughout – otherwise you’re liquid will separate from your ice. Slurp
immediately.

*This recipe can be made with any flavor presweetened Kool-Aid powder (be sure it’s
already got the sugar mixed in) and any carbonated beverage – club soda works fine, it just
isn’t quite as sweet.

Cola Slushy
4 cans of cold cola (or 48 oz of cola from a 2 liter bottle – it just doesn’t get quite as cold
as the cans)

Pour the cold cola into the frozen bowl of a Cuisinart ice cream maker. Let it process for
about 15 minutes. Slurp immediately.

*This recipe can be made with your favorite flavor of any carbonated beverage (Dr. Pepper,
Root Beer, Squirt, Cream Soda, etc.) BUT beware: diet drinks don’t work. Sugar is key.

Frozen Lemonade Slushy
2 cups of ice (pebbled works best)

1 cup lemon-lime soda

1 heaping Tablespoon Country Time lemonade powder

Put the ice and soda in the blender and pulse until ice chunks are smooth. Add in the
lemonade powder and blend until slushy. Be careful to only blend until the powder has
mixed in throughout – otherwise you’re liquid will separate from your ice. Slurp
immediately.

*Two of my favorite variations for this recipe:

Frozen Peach Lemonade: add a couple of squirts of Torani peach syrup to the mix and
decrease the soda just a touch.

Frozen Mint Lemonade: throw a few sprigs of mint into the ice and soda mixture before
adding the lemonade powder. Garnish each glass with a sprig of mint if you’re feeling
fancy.

Dreamsicle Slushy
48 oz orange cream soda (I am addicted to Henry Weinhard’s brand)

Splash of cream

Pour the cold soda into the frozen bowl of a Cuisinart ice cream maker. Let it process for
about 15 minutes. Distribute slushy into glasses. Splash each glass with a touch of cream
and swirl in with a straw. Slurp immediately
Tangalicious Slushy
2 cups of ice (pebbled works best)

1 cup Red Cream Soda

1 heaping Tablespoon Tang powder

Put the ice and soda in the blender and pulse until ice chunks are smooth. Add in the Tang
powder and blend until slushy. Be careful to only blend until the powder has mixed in
throughout – otherwise you’re liquid will separate from your ice. Slurp immediately.

*Pineapple soda with Tang is another surprisingly tasty combination…

EXTRA TIPS FOR KEEPING THINGS COOOOOOL…

*Chill Pipes – available at convenience stores and TOTALLY worth the mini splurge. They
really keep things chilly.

*About 30 minutes before slurping, place your glass in the freezer. A frosty mug filled with
some type of yummy slushy is the perfect summer treat for cooling off.

*Silly straws and a variety of glasses make everything taste better… Especially my favorite
look: the Mason jar with a paper straw.
