7 Ways to Elevate Fourth of July Decor to Stretch You Through Pioneer Day

You’ll want to keep this Fourth of July decor up a little bit longer!

When it comes to summer holidays here in Utah, we do get a double dose of red, white, and blue with the Fourth of July and Pioneer Day just weeks apart. So we say it’s worth it to invest in a few timeless and patriotic home accessories you’ll want to bring out year after year.

Designer Lauren Oviatt shared how to add a festive and elevated touch to your home for the month of July.

Start at the Front Door

Lauren shared a simple yet impactful idea for the front door: a flag-filled basket. Using shopping bags and foam for structure, she layered 30 to 40 small flags into a basket. “It has been so fun on the door and so easy,” she said. This creative alternative to your traditional wreath instantly sets a patriotic vibe.

Dress the Table with Durable Style

Lauren highlighted two standout tablecloths from a local company, Table Six. One is a laminated blue cloth perfect for outdoor use, and the other is a khaki check that’s water and stain resistant. “I poured my Coke right onto it and it just balls up,” she shared. The practicality and style makes these a great investment for summer entertaining.

Add Nautical and Patriotic Touches

From taper candles to porcelain vases, Lauren encouraged using what you already have in red, white, or blue. “Shoving American flags in anything is always going to be so much fun,” she said.

She also recommended Paper House ribbon for a subtle patriotic flair. “A beautiful ribbon goes a long way,” she emphasized.

Embrace Speckleware and Playful Patterns

Lauren shared some speckleware pieces and striped napkins that add personality without feeling juvenile. “It feels handmade. It doesn’t feel so juvenile, which I really like,” she said. These pieces, including a scalloped lamp and napkins from World Market, bring charm and texture to the table.

Incorporate Art and Texture

Lauren included a small art piece by local artist Rachel Nelson for a classic touch. Smaller art is easy to place throughout the home. Lauren also introduced caned serving ware from Serena & Lily and Target, which adds a coastal vibe without relying on patriotic colors.

Don’t Forget the Florals

Lauren suggested picking up a simple potted plant like a red cyclamen. “Even the description of the flower says a firework shaped flower,” she noted. Add a blue ribbon and you’ve got a festive, natural centerpiece.

Finish with Bows

Finally, Lauren raved about The Spool House in Farmington for custom bows. “They do these incredible custom bows that have a clip so you can clip them to an existing wreath,” she said. With options in fabric and stripes, these bows are a versatile and reusable decor element.
