Think of the charm of a French market. The crusty baguette, the fresh-picked bloom, both tucked together in a beautiful basket. That dreamy pairing is no longer just for the streets of Paris.
Florist Brynn Larsen is bringing the look home in the most creative way – by using bread as the base for her floral arrangements! It’s an unexpected twist that turns food and florals into one stunning centerpiece.
Brynn suggests three ways to incorporate bread into your displays:
Bread Candleholders
Use a solid round loaf of bread that is sturdy and heavy enough to place taper candles straight into the bread for a candle holder that looks straight out of Paris.
She pairs airy and whimsical flowers in small arrangements to complement the color of the bread, making it a cohesive tablescape that feels elevated while being playful. To insert votive candles, use a sharp knife and cut out little holes in a long French loaf before inserting the candle.
Bread Vase
Carve out a large French bread loaf and line it with a thick garbage bag cut to fit with a piece of floral foam inside to create a vessel for a wildflower arrangement. Brynn suggests pairing it with summer produce like tomatoes on the vine for a fun touch.
Bread Tablescape Element
Bread that is an interesting color, shape, or texture is perfect to add decorative elements to your tablescape. You can really get creative here by stacking the loaves vertically or lean them on each other down the table to add visual interest and bulk to your table without adding a lot of cost. Brynn says to pay attention to the colors you want to incorporate – a light French or sourdough for lighter tones and a rye or pumpernickel for dark, rich tones that would be perfect for a harvest or holiday event.
Brynn says to have fun with it. Add candles, flowers and produce to create a fun, whimsical, and creative table that feels personalized and seasonal.
