Greek Pound Cake


1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
3 cups flour
6 eggs
1 cup milk (warm)
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/3 cup sugar, or to taste
1/2 cup chopped almonds or other nuts


Cream together butter and 2 cups sugar. Add flour and stir well. Mixture
will be coarse. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

Stir baking powder into warm milk and then into egg mixture. Dissolve soda
in lemon juice then stir into batter. Mix well. Pour batter into a greased
10×2 inch round baking pan (I prefer a springform pan).

Combine 1/3 cup sugar with chopped nuts. Sprinkle mixture on top of cake.
Bake cake at 350 degrees for 45-60 minutes or until golden brown and when a
toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool cake completely in pan.
