Home Restoration on a Budget

Restoring an older room in the home to its former beauty can be an extremely rewarding project and investment. But, what if you have to stick to a budget?

Nicole Curtis with the show Rehab Addict on HGTV shares restoration tips that won’t break the bank.

Educate yourself

Study the era of your home, read up on the basics of home restoration, and examine the state your rooms are already in. This knowledge will allow you to move forward with prospective restoration ideas with fewer problems down the road.

Start Small

Repaint the areas that need a little brightening up. Adding a fresh coat of paint is one of the simplest DIY projects you can try on your own. You can alter or restore the look and feel of a room at a much lower cost.

Embrace the old charm

An easy way to liven up an old space without changing it or breaking your budget is to add period accents, such as doorknobs, drawer and cupboard handles, and fixtures. You may be surprised with the gems you find at local thrift stores, flea markets, and yard sales. Get to know your personal style and combine it with the original design of your home.

Ask for help

Restoration projects are not always easy, especially when questions regarding structure, plumbing, or electric arise. It’s not a good idea to tackle these alone. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Consult with a specialist in order to set up a better plan of action.
