Italian Meatball Sub
2 T olive oil
1 medium onion chopped
2 tsp minced garlic
1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
1 dried bay leaves
½ tsp sugar
salt
pepper
1 sourdough hoagie bun
4 Italian style meatballs
½ C marinara sauce
2 T mozzarella cheese
sprinkle of parmesan cheese
Over medium heat, heat oil in a large pot until hot. Add onion and garlic, sauté for 3-5 min until the onions begin to appear translucent. Add the tomatoes and stir. Add in the herbs and bay leaves. Sprinkle in sugar, salt and pepper. Lower the heat and continue to simmer for 30 minutes, uncovered. Stir occasionally.
Preheat oven to 400°. Cut the hoagie bun open. In a bowl mix meatballs and marinara sauce. Place the mixture on the hoagie bun. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese and parmesan. Bake for 10 minutes, or until cheese is browned and bubbly. Enjoy!
