How do you get started and what are some special techniques:

Deciding on a scene


– Wallpaper murals,

– rub on transfers,

– paint by number mural kits,

– overhead projectors

– hand painted – use your own imagination

Use Right Brushes and Equipment


– Sponges,

– Paper

– Rags


– Tools from wood grain to bottle caps

Prepping the Wall

– apply coat of paint (satin or eggshell finish latex wall paint)

– create a faux background, i.e. clouds, bricks, etc.

Painting the Wall


Blending – mixing different colors to create a new one
Stippling -“pouncing” your brush to add 3-5 different colors

Shading – how to create shading on a design

Layering – adding dimension to your scene

The N.E.C. Home Show this coming weekend August 28-30 at 9575 South state Street at the South Towne Expo Center in Sandy, Utah. Friday 12-10pm Saturday 10-10pm and Sunday 10-6pm. N.E.C. is having a mural contest that will be auctioning off many other wonderful things. It’s their annual charity auction to benefit local schools. Bring new, unopened school supplies and save $3.00 off adult admission ($6.75) The auction starts on Saturday at 7pm.
