Make a Fresh Fruit Charcuterie Board Pop With 4 Pro Cutting Techniques

Summer is the best time for a colorful fruit charcuterie board.

Move over, meat and cheese—there’s a new board in town! Whether you’re hosting a brunch, bridal shower, or summer soirée, a fruit charcuterie board is a fresh, colorful, and crowd-pleasing way to serve produce in style.

Suzy Bunker recently styled one for a bridal shower, and now she’s sharing her ideas to make your own board a centerpiece-worthy work of art. From cutting tricks to layout ideas, here’s how to serve fruit in a way that’s anything but ordinary.

What is a Fruit Charcuterie Board?

Think of it as the modern fruit tray. This board skips the cured meats and cheeses and instead celebrates the vibrancy of fresh fruit. The result is a table centerpiece that’s just as pretty as it is delicious. Perfect for anytime you want to serve produce in a more elevated way.

Layer in florals, herbs, or even edible flowers to add texture and fragrance to your board.

Cutting Fruit Like a Pro

Presentation is everything, and it starts with how you prep the fruit. Suzy walked us through a few of her favorite show-stopping cuts:

  • Zig-Zag Kiwi: Use a paring knife to cut a zig-zag pattern around the middle and pull apart for a fun starburst look.
  • Mango Squares: Score the flesh in a grid pattern while still on the peel, then flip inside out for an instant cube effect.
  • Orange Wheels or Segments: Slice into thin rounds for symmetry, or segment for a more organic, casual feel.
  • Cantaloupe Slices: Cut your cantaloupe the same you would a watermelon- triangle slices with the rind on. This makes it easy for guests to eat handheld.

Most fruits can be washed, peeled, and sliced a few hours in advance. Store in airtight containers in the fridge, and wait until just before serving to lay everything out. That way, the board stays fresh and vibrant.
