Making the Old New Again: Vintage Christmas Decor

Brenda Klomp, Owner of Just a Bed of Roses, explains how to give old items a new look.

RUSTY VINTAGE TURNS NEW

Old items can get new life with just a breath of creativity. By grouping vintage items you can create a very quaint feel in your home.

EBELLISH SOMETHING NEW INTO VINTAGE

I’m always looking for a way to give new items a vintage feel. Dig out Grandma’s jewelry and use your broken pieces to embellish new décor items, and give those items old-fashioned flavor. A dash of spray paint can age any project, so spray away!

CHIC & SHABBY CHRISTMAS USING PAPERIE

Christmas is typically associated with bold red and green, but by embracing softer colors in your Christmas décor you can create a warm but glitzy atmosphere, accented by old-fashioned images. Furs, antique glass and antique bottles all add to this feel. Paper can give a different texture to your Christmas holiday, so pull out the scrapbook stash. A single piece of paper can make an entire display feel unique and come to life – so shop carefully for just the right piece!

GATHER CHRISTMAS’ PAST

Get out your old black and white photos, your old ornaments, your old ice skates – any yesterday décor. By rearranging these items and using unique containers and vessels, you can turn these antique favorites into a charming display.
