These are the skin treatments that are worth your time and money.
If you want smoother, glowing skin, don’t just slap on more makeup. Heal your skin from within. With so many skin treatments promising to smooth, tighten, and brighten, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the options, so we’re simplifying it all for you. What is available, what they actually do, and who they are best for.
Master aesthetician Lisa Richards shared five popular treatments she said we all need to know about.
Customized Facials
“Don’t underestimate a facial,” Lisa emphasized. Facials are often underestimated, but they have significant benefits beyond pampering.
They can be customized to address specific skin concerns. “ That’s the ideal way. Custom is knowing that it’s targeting what you need right then for your condition,” Lisa explained. Check with your provider beforehand to find out if you can get a customized facial.
Jet Plasma
Jet Plasma is a newer treatment that uses gas molecules to create real changes in the skin. “This is so much newer, but worth the hype entirely,” Lisa emphasized. This treatment emits high energized gas molecules that stimulate processes like firming, healing, and sanitizing.
Unlike microneedling, Jet Plasma offers similar results without any pain or significant redness. “ You’re only just, from a little circulation, slightly pink, but it’s gone before you’re out the door,” Lisa said.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are a popular choice for rejuvenating the skin. “ As we roll into spring and summer, we’re not going for these intense peels that are heavy shedding and really intimidate people,” Lisa said.
She advised going for milder peels. “A lot of people don’t know there are milder peels that can accomplish the progress without the downtime.” Lisa emphasized that you won’t see any visible peeling, and only flaking at the most.
These peels are done in a series, allowing for gradual improvement without visible peeling or significant downtime. “ You can do them in four to six treatments in the time of two months,” Lisa explained. “You’re packing them in together so you get a little bit more of the progress.”
Combo Laser
The Combo Laser is a next-generation treatment that combines muscle stimulation, radio frequency, and IPL in one session. “ This is so new. It’s like, the next generation of laser,” Lisa said.
Instead of getting each one of those treatments separately, a combo laser does them all at once. “You’re doing it all in one treatment so you get a full facial rejuvenation,” Lisa explained. She also said it is an investment, but this treatment can help you save money and time compared to undergoing separate treatments, where you would be spending a lot more.
There is a little bit of downtime with this treatment, but not in terms of wounding to the skin. “With the pigment that kind of comes forward, it’s less than a week,” Lisa explained. “It’s just a little bit of darkened pigment that’s possible.”
Dermaplaning
“ This is not your face shaving at home,” Lisa emphasized. Dermaplaning involves using a surgical steel blade to resurface the skin. “You take off all that vellus hair, so the skin is becoming so hyper smooth,” she explained.
This treatment helps with product absorption and makeup application, leaving the skin smooth and reflective. “ It just leaves a really nice result that appeals to a lot of people,” Lisa noted.
She mentioned that most skin types can handle this treatment, but recommended avoiding it on active acne. “Pregnant women actually love it because they can’t do a lot of things with the peels that have ingredients associated,” Lisa said. “So when they’re staying away from those, they love to see their skin glow and come forward a little bit better.”
