These are some painting projects you’ve probably never tried!
If you are looking for a way to keep little hands busy this summer, pour on the paint! A few basic supplies and an ordinary afternoon will create colorful works of art with a twist. Replace brushes with unconventional tools to apply paint for an activity full of imagination.
Studio 5 Creative Editor Jill Broadbent shared four ideas that make magic that’s worth a little mess!
Bubble Painting
Mix liquid watercolor into bubble solution. It can be store-bought solution or a homemade recipe:
- ¼ cup dish soap
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp sugar
Cut off the bottom portion of a plastic water bottle. Cover with a mesh material – laundry bags or bags from oranges work well. Duct tape around water bottle to secure. Dip bottle into bubble mixture and blow through the bottle to create a large stream of dense bubbles. Let bubbles land on paper and allow to pop and rest. The result is a fun, colorful pattern! Layer colors to create fun works of art!
Another option with the bubble solution is to insert a straw into the bubble mixture and blow to create an eruption of bubbles from the container. Simply tap paper onto bubbles that appear and watch the pattern form.
Squeegee Painting
Using acrylic paint, add dots and lines randomly to paper. Using a squeegee, swipe from top to bottom and create a unique and modern result.
Plastic Bag Painting
Using a thin plastic bag, tie a knot in the seamed end. Flip the bag inside out and fill with air. Twist the top to create a tight ball of air. Bounce the bag into acrylic paint and tap onto paper. The result is a floral effect.
Water Gun Painting
Fill water guns with liquid watercolor. Use poster boards or canvases and shoot paint at the surface to create a splattered painting. Best to do outside in the grass.
