Poached Figs and Peaches With Mascarpone Cheese


6 fresh figs, cut into halves
4 peaches, pitted and cut into eighths
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
pinch of nutmeg
zest and juice of 1 lemon
8 oz. mascarpone cheese
2 T. port or sherry
6 lady fingers or amaretti cookies


In a medium saucepan, place the figs, peaches, sugar, water, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice and zest. Bring to boil, lower heat to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and cool down to room temperature. Divide into 6 decoratice glasses, top with a dollop of mascarpone and drizzle with port or sherry. Serve with a lady finger on the side. Serves 6.
