Make Halloween sugar cookies that look professional, but are actually super simple!
Halloween is for sugar, and most importantly—sugar cookies! These extreme Halloween cookies are totally over-the-top, but easier than you think to pull off.
Justine Banks is an expert cookie artist. In 2022, she competed in Food Network’s Halloween Cookie challenge and won! Since then, she’s conquered countless cookie competitions and continues to make her mark in the cookie world. She taught us three Halloween cookie techniques that you can take home to your own kitchen.
Icing Smear Technique
Using just a little bit of royal icing, Justine demonstrated how to bring a cute ghost to life. Squirt some royal icing onto a frosted cookie and then use your finger or a knife to smear it down. Add a few black dots for eyes and a mouth, and voila!
Stenciled Icing Technique
For a clean and detailed look, use a stencil! You can order any sort of pattern on Amazon. Layer the stencil on top of your frosted cookie. Then, spread frosting on top of the stencil. Peel it back and you’ll have a professional looking cookie.
Edible Blood Recipe
Go gory with some edible blood. You can use this recipe to decorate cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and beyond!
INGREDIENTS
- Corn syrup (as much as you’ll want for the blood)
- Red food coloring
- 1 tsp. cornstarch
METHOD
Mix together until combined. Flick or drizzle across finished treats for a creepy finish.
