Here are the shoe styles to add to your fall closet.
From stacked loafers to tall riding boots, this year’s shoe trends are stepping up in a big way. We are breaking down all of fall’s biggest styles and showing you how to stay on point with your footwear.
Studio 5 Style & Fashion Contributor Casey Matheny helped us navigate this season’s boots and shoes game.
Stacked Loafers
One of the standout trends this season is the height on heeled loafers. Casey loves their practicality with the current trend of long pants. “Instead of having to hem all of your pants, you can just add a little height with your loafers,” she pointed out. Stacked loafers can be paired with a suit set, denim, or even a skirt or dress with a little sock, making them a must-have for this fall.
Riding Boots
Riding boots are making a big comeback this fall. Casey noted that it’s been a while since these boots were in style, “When was the last time we saw riding boots? Like 2012?”
You’ll now see these boots in sleek designs with harnesses, belts, and buckles, adding a touch of moto-chic. “I love mixing hardware with, maybe a dress, and that juxtaposition of, like, feminine versus hard,” Casey said.
Fancy Footwear
This season, fancy footwear is not just for special occasions. Casey pointed out that shearling, crystals, mesh, and diamonds are being incorporated into everyday shoes. “All of this bedazzlement in shoes is everywhere,” she emphasized.
You can pair these fancier shoes with casual outfits, like a sweater and jeans, to add a touch of glam to an everyday look. “This doesn’t have to be an evening footwear,” Casey advised.
The Mule Spectrum
Mules are another trend to watch this fall. Casey described it as a spectrum. “You can go really mule-y or just, like, a touch of mule,” she explained. Pair traditional mules or ones with more flair with jeans, sweater dresses, or tailored suits.
Sleek Retro Sneakers
For those who prefer to go more casual, sleek retro sneakers are in. The bulky dad sneaker is out, and slim, retro-inspired designs are taking over. “We’re seeing these really retro logos and really cool retro colors,” Casey described.
She loves color a pop of color and a neutral, but said if you were going to pick one, maybe stick with a neutral pair. “Sometimes there are the pseudo neutrals, like a yellow or a red, that you find can go with everything but they’re a pop,” Casey said.
