Simple and Sweet Gift Ideas

We share our love through food and these are often the best gifts for neighbors and friends at Christmas.

Chef Shaun Heaslet shares a few ideas for kitchen treats that make great gifts.

Oreo and Cream Cheese Truffles
1-16 oz. package Oreo cookies, any flavor is good

1-16 oz. package Ghirardelli semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted gently in the microwave or in a double boiler

1-8 oz. package cream cheese, softened

Process 9 of the cookies to fine crumbs in a food processor and reserve for later use. Process the remaining 36 cookies to fine crumbs. Place crumbs and cream cheese into a bowl and mix until well combined. Roll mixture into about 40-1″ diameter balls.

Dip balls into chocolate and place on wax or parchment paper covered baking pans. Sprinkle with reserved cookie crumbs and or sprinkle with favorite Christmas baking decorations. Refrigerate until firm, about 1 hour. Store leftover truffles, covered, in the refrigerator.
Salted Caramel Sauce with Apples
4 oz. butter

1 C sugar

1 C heavy cream

1 tsp. good quality finishing salt such as Fleur de Sel or Maldon

Melt the butter and sugar in a medium sized pan. Use a wooden spoon to break up any lumps, but do

not stir. When the sugar begins to caramelize, swirl the pan to make sure the sugar caramelizes

evenly. Cook the sugar and butter until it is dark amber color and it is almost burnt. At this point, add

the cream carefully (it will bubble up!). Now you can stir the caramel until it is smooth and add the salt.

Strain, cool on ice and transfer into squeeze bottles.
Pretzel Rods Dipped in Chocolate
