Sour Cream Apple Walnut Pie


Crust for one 9” pie
Filling:
6 large cooking apples such as Granny Smith or Pippin, peeled, cored, sliced
1 cup sour cream
1/3 cup sugar
1 large egg, beaten
¼ tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla extract
¼ cup flour
zest and juice of 1 lemon
Topping:
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup chopped walnuts
whipped cream or vanilla ice cream


Place crust in a 9” pie pan. Crimp edges. Set aside.

Have the apples peeled, cored and sliced in a separate bowl.

In a medium bowl, combine the sour cream, sugar, beaten egg, salt, vanilla extract, flour, lemon zest and juice. Toss in the apple slices. Pour into prepared pie shell. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon and walnuts. Spread evenly over the apples. Bake in a preheated 350o for 55-60 minutes or until bubbly. Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Serves 8.
