Spread the love through your community!
We all show love differently, but those unique talents and gifts can be used to show love to everyone around us in both big and small ways! From girlfriends to grandchildren, we have the opportunity to uniquely express that love we feel.
Cami Packer shared special ways we can show up – in love – to everyone in our life.
Spouse
Write an old fashioned letter
Life can sometimes get chaotic, and while a quick text saying I love you is wonderful, taking the time to sit down and hand-write things that you especially love and appreciate about your spouse becomes a gift they can treasure and read over and over. Written letters used to bind people together (in some cases from the other side of the world!), and Cami thinks they still have that power for the reader and the writer.
Cami thinks these blank love letters are so sweet. They come with a prompt that can help you know what to write about.
Family
Eat dinner together
In today’s busy world, setting precious time aside to sit at a table with our families can show that we love them and value our time together. One of the greatest feelings is knowing that someone loves you enough to anticipate and fill your most basic physical need for nourishment. Dinner doesn’t have to be fancy! The goal is to be anchored around the table together, without distractions, and to be able to focus on each other. If there are feelings of tension in your family, try to take a break from those feelings at the dinner table.
If you’re looking for things to talk about at the dinner table, here are some great ideas for conversation starters for all ages.
Friends
Look for an excuse to gather together
Make a cake and invite friends over to chat and eat. Cami has a friend who is so good at this. She makes amazing cakes and will send out a text inviting a few friends over. We all bring a dish to share for lunch, and we have thoughtful, meaningful conversations that help her have renewed energy.
Do something small to make a friend’s life easier
Drop by a drink, send an encouraging text, or drop by a bundle of paper plates to give her a night off of washing dishes.
Neighbors
Drop off a cookie kit
For young moms, assemble a sugar cookie decorating kit to deliver. Having young children is such a magical time of life, and it’s also a busy time. Sometimes young moms don’t have time or energy to enjoy those little things that make holidays with young children so fun. Make or buy unfrosted sugar cookies, add in a couple tubs of frosting and some sprinkles, and give a young mom an afternoon of fun with her kids without the baking and cleanup!
Deliver flowers
For older neighbors, deliver a small vase with a few flowers in it, just to say that you’re thinking of them. Even better, visit for a few minutes and ask them a question about their life.
Strangers
Donate to a food pantry
Food insecurity is in all our communities, and the rise in grocery prices makes the problem worse. The Utah Food Bank is always in need of things like peanut butter, canned meats, and all kinds of non-perishables. You don’t have to wait for a food drive, there are many drop off locations listed on their website.
Give to a hospital
We have one of the greatest children’s hospitals right here in Utah! Give monetary donations, give items like blankets, toys, coloring books, and markers, or give with your talents by scheduling a time to do something like playing the piano in the lobby. Cami is a mother who has had a child at Primary Children’s and says these things really help families feel loved and supported in a difficult time.
Give to a women’s shelter
Contact your local women’s shelter or family support center. Cami’s local Family Support Center is always in need of things like paper towels, diapers, and new children’s pajamas. Adding an item to your grocery order and dropping it off is a quick way to show love to someone in our community.
Simple efforts go a long way in showing love to all those around us. The more we intentionally try to show love to others, the more capacity we have in our own hearts to feel love.
