There are all kinds of texture on our spring shoes!
This spring, one trend is weaving its way into all of your favorite stores. Textured, woven shoes are a hit this season, from raffia flats to braided heels. These beauties are lining the store shelves at Target and beyond.
Studio 5 Style & Fashion Contributor Casey Matheny shared how to style them in a way that’s practical so they can go beyond the beach.
The Versatility of Textured Shoes
Casey highlighted how versatile textured shoes are, and noted that they are available in lots of styles and price points. “I walked into Target and I’m like, ‘our only option are textured shoes.’ So it was really easy to find options that are available for everyone to choose from,” she said. Whether you prefer flats, heels, or mules, there is a textured shoe to suit every taste and occasion.
Raffia, Braided, and Woven Styles
Textured shoes come in a several materials and weaves. “We are going to see these in a number of different types of weaves and different textures, from leathers to the raffia,” Casey explained. Casey highlighted some sling-back heels, mule flats, kitten heels, slides, and ballet flats, all in these different textures.
Comfort and Durability
One concern with textured shoes is their durability and comfort. Casey reassured that many of these shoes are designed to be both. Highlighting a pair of crochet kitten heels, she emphasized, “I swear that this material just, it doesn’t catch anything. It’s wonderful.”
She also showed some woven Birkenstock-style slides that she said are incredibly comfortable and perfect for everyday wear. “ They are so comfortable, so wonderful… and at a really affordable price level,” she said.
Styling Textured Shoes
Casey shared some advice on how to incorporate textured shoes into your wardrobe. She suggested pairing them with jeans and a white tee for a casual look, or dressing them up with a cute dress for a more formal occasion. Showing a pair of woven Mary Jane ballet flats, she said, “Think of them just like a regular flat.”
Kitten heels might feel more formal, but Casey likes to use them to dress up every day outfits. “ I love a kitten heel for every day,” she said. “I just feel like it elevates you a little bit, helps extend your legs, but it’s not much height.”
The Mesh Shoe Debate
Casey also touched on the mesh shoe trend. She admitted, “I actually last year said I will not do mesh. I won’t do it.” But, she said they’re not going away, and recently they’ve been coming out with pretty appliques and pearl accents. “ I mean, if you’re gonna add some flowers on it, then I’ll take it.”
The Comeback of Jellies
Jellies are making a comeback, and Casey is all for it. “I love them. I want to just like, smell them all day… it’s like the nineties reminiscent,” she said.
Casey highlighted several different styles, and said that comfort level depends on the jelly. “ I have not found a jelly that hurts yet,” she noted.
Miscellaneous Trends
Finally, Casey highlighted some miscellaneous shoe trends to watch out for, including beaded details, paracord sandals, and fun flip flops. “A lot of fun, a lot of texture, and just lean into it. I say it’s fun,” she emphasized.
