The Sweat-Proof Makeup Sandwich

  1. Preppers
  2. Complexion
  3. Powder Set
  4. Color Layer
  5. Liquid Set

Step 1: The Barrier—The Most Crucial Layer

“Our top layer is our prepper layer… the most important because it’s the one that’s directly touching your skin,” Megan emphasized.

She recommended a liquid toner from Mehron, a brand known for special effects and stage makeup. “It puts a very mattifying barrier over the skin so that everything else on top of it is a little bit protected,” Megan explained.

Step 2: Complexion Layer

Next comes your foundation and concealer. Megan advised avoiding anything labeled “dewy” and instead choosing mattifying formulas. “You want to add something that’s going to be mattifying, that’s going to have… powders in them that help absorb sweat and oil,” she said. She recommended Estee Lauder Double Wear for a high-end option, and Wet n Wild’s stick foundation for a budget-friendly option.

Step 3: Powder Set—Lock It In

After applying your base, it’s time to set it. “We’re going to lock in our foundation and our concealer with our powder,” Megan explained.

She loves Makeup Forever’s blurring powder, describing it as “almost like powdered sugar… so fine, and it just kind of disappears into the skin.” This step seals in your complexion and creates a barrier for the next layers.

Step 4: Color Layer

This is where you add bronzer, blush, brows, and mascara. Megan suggested layering cream and powder products for extra staying power. “If you put a cream blush and then a powder blush on top of it, you’ve created a little mini layer… it’s going give it even more longevity,” she explained.

Step 5: Liquid Set

Finish with a setting spray. “This is going to seal everything together and give us that final barrier,” Megan explained.

She recommended One Size’s aerosol spray: “It is waterproof. You can swim in it, you can run through the sprinklers and it really does hold up,” she said.
