Try your hand at homemade lollipops! These orange spice suckers are actually easy to make

Homemade lollipops are way better than store bought.

Candy seems like a culinary craft that the home cook just can’t take on. That couldn’t be further from the truth! Making lollipops at home is actually fairly simple, and you can make your own flavor combos.

Alanna Story shares all the tools you need to make your own suckers. There are some pretty ways to make them gourmet, like adding gold or a pretty combination of colors. Alanna shares how she makes orange spice lollipops.

Orange Spice Lollipops

Time: 35-40 minutes 

Yields : 20-24 small lollipops 

 

Ingredients 

  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup of light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1/2 tsp. Lorann oils extra strength orange flavor
  • 2-4 drops of lorann oils orange food coloring

 

Sugar coating

  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon  of cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon citric acid

 

Decorate with a dash of edible gold glitter. 

 

Directions 

Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water in a 2-4quart saucepan pot. And stir with wooden spoon. Place on medium heat and stir until sugar has dissolved. Bring mixture to a boil WITHOUT stirring. When syrup temperature reaches between 250-260 degrees Fahrenheit add 2 drops of orange food coloring. Do not stir. Boiling action will incorporate color. Remove from heat at 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Add in 1/2 tsp. Orange flavoring and stir carefully. Avoid rising steam it can burn. 

 

Carefully pour sugar mixture into lightly greased small round flat lollipop molds. Lightly sprinkle on the cinnamon sugar to the back of the lollipops. Let cool completely before taking them out of molds takes about 15 minutes. Lollipops will be good for about a month in an airtight container 

 

*candy thermometer will help incredibly well with the temperature changes. I use the glass one from Lorann Oils
