UDOT: Labor Day Travel

Let the Utah Department of Transportation help you navigate Utah roads this Labor Day weekend.

With holiday travel and the first college football games of the season, it will be very important this Labor Day weekend to be aware of construction projects throughout the state.

· Although many construction projects are in progress, most crews won’t be working over the Labor Day holiday to help improve travel. Be aware that existing areas of narrowed lanes and reduced speeds will still be in effect for your safety and could add extra travel time.

I-15 CORE project in Utah County.

· The Orem Center Street interchange is now open and is designed to improve traffic flow.

· Watch for traffic shifts at the Spanish Fork interchange. As of today, the southbound off-ramp to US-6 and Spanish Fork Main Street is back to its permanent location.

· After Labor Day, the 1600 North interchange will completely close for up to 15 days for paving.

· And, a widening project is starting on University Parkway in Orem between State Street and 800 East. Two lanes will remain open in each direction, but drivers should plan ahead for delays and allow extra travel time.

Tips for drivers heading to college football games:

· If you’re heading to the BYU game tomorrow night, the best exits to get to the stadium are Orem 800 North, Orem Center Street and University Avenue. We’ll be posting traffic updates on Twitter after the game with the best routes back to the freeway.
· And, for the first Utah football game tomorrow, there is construction on 400 South. However, work will stop on after 3 p.m., so plan your travel accordingly.

Other projects going on throughout the state:

· In Southern Utah, I-70 in Clear Creek Canyon between Millard and Sevier Counties will be reduced from two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction.

· And, on US-89, 10 miles west of Lake Powell, there will be lane restrictions and minor delays until Friday as crews as crews finish road maintenance.

· In Northern Utah, I-84 will be restricted to one lane in each direction between Morgan and Mountain Green as crews repave the roadway.

Tips to keep in mind over the holiday weekend:

· We always want to remind people to use caution when driving through construction zones. Be alert, watch for changing conditions and observe signs and warnings. It’s always a good idea to plan ahead and allow extra time if you’re traveling through one of our projects.
