Valentine’s Countdown Calendar

Margie Aslett from Making Memories shows us some clever and creative ideas for each of the days.

DAY ONE – I used a ½ lb. Kraft coffee bag from the Container Store and glued a strip of Battenburg paper to the front. I added Love Notes Trim and a Die-Cut Tag, embellished with Paperie Shimmer Alphas.

DAY TWO – A customized candy bar wrapper is an oldie but goodie for me. I cut strips of red paper with scallop edge scissors and glued them to a length of Patterned Heart paper. I used Love Notes Rub-Ons to create the “Sweetheart” sentiment and attached a Die-Cut Tag and a numbered tag from Title Alpha Stickers using a pin from the Love Notes Heart Pins.

DAY THREE – I made a background from the Words paper and glued it to red cardstock, which I trimmed with pinking shears. I used my Sewing Kit to mark holes on the card and stitch a line for each of the hearts. I folded heart cutouts, glittered them with Shimmer, then glued them to the card. Finally, I numbered the card with a number from Paperie Shimmer Alphas.

DAY FOUR – I took apart a wedding favor box that I bought at a party store and modified it to create a template for the hanging basket. I traced around the template onto Battenburg paper, cut it out, and made fold lines with a bone folder. I punched holes in the sides, added a length of Love Notes Trim and attached a Die-Cut Tag to the front using Vintage Brads. I used my Tag Maker to make a rimmed tag out of Kraft paper and added a Paperie Shimmer number. I filled it with Kraft shred and some candies.

DAY FIVE – I made a heart cutout from the Words paper and added a pocket made from the Battenburg paper. I glued the heart cutout onto red cardstock and trimmed it with pinking shears. I added a Love Notes Ticket (one of my favorite products of all!) in the pocket and secured a numbered tag from the Title Alpha Stickers with a Heart Pin.

DAY SIX – I wrapped a small gift box with Kraft Heart Brocade paper, tied ribbon so that the bow rests in the front, and embellished it with a Felt Clip and a Love Notes Ticket that also serves as a tag for the number.

DAY SEVEN – Using a combination of Lace and Patterned Heart paper, I created a flower from 9 heart shapes folded (for dimension, layer some hearts with the fold facing up and some with the fold facing down) and held together with a Vintage Brad. The surprise – a magnet was glued to the back of the flower and the floral wire stem attached with a glue dot. Remove the stem and your recipient can use the flower magnet all through the year.

DAY EIGHT – I made a folded heart card using Stitched Heart and Hearts Doily paper, embellished with Die-Cut Tags and Love Notes Trim. For the interior, I cut a heart shape from the other side of the Hearts Doily paper, and cut out the interior. I glued that over a sheet of vellum with a sugar cookie recipe printed on it and glued it to the interior of the card.

DAY NINE – I wrote out my sentiment on red paper and slipped it inside a glassine envelope. I trimmed a piece of Lace paper with pinking shears and attached it to the front of the envelope, allowing a border of red paper to show around the edges. I added a length of ribbon, secured with a Love Notes Ribbon Slide, then tucked a folded, numbered heart into the ribbon strip.

DAY TEN – I painted a small peat pot (found in the gardening section at Home Depot) with Making Memories Scrapbook Colors then glittered it with clear glitter. The front is embellished with Love Notes Shimmer Hearts. To make the interior, I used two foil cupcake liners, interiors facing, and rested them inside the peat cup, which was then filled with a little Kraft paper shred and some candies. To make the tag, I cut a circle from the Sampler paper, glued it onto red cardstock, and trimmed it with scallop edge scissors. The number is from the Love Notes Title Alpha Stickers.

DAY ELEVEN – I purchased a small oval paper-mache box from Michaels and covered it with a band of paper from the Sampler paper. I glued a piece of Love Notes Trim around the top edge. I made a rosette from a ½-inch x 8-inch strip of Kraft Heart Brocade paper accordion folded, glued together at the edges, and glued together in the center. I added a Paperie Dimensional Sticker to the front of the rosette and glued it onto the front of the box.

DAY TWELVE – I covered two different sized tags with Kraft Pillow Ticking, Kraft Cherry Blossom, and Sampler papers. I embellished with Love Notes Trim, a Title Alpha Sticker, and a Ribbon Slide. Numbers were created from the Paperie Shimmer Alphas.

DAY THIRTEEN – I covered the exterior of a matchbook with Sampler paper and red cardstock trimmed with scallop edge scissors. I embellished with Paperie Shimmer Alphas and a Shimmer Heart. On the interior, I lined the matchbook with Words paper and wrote out my sentiment.

DAY FOURTEEN – I cut a rectangle of Kraft Heart Brocade paper and layered it over red cardstock. I glued a Love Notes Ticket and numbers from the Paperie Shimmer Alphas to the front of a Love Notes Die-Cut Tag and attached it to the card with a piece of Love Notes Trim.
