5 Ways to Slow Down & Create More Contentment at Home

Take the time to slow down and enjoy!

We scroll, we post, we chase the next big thing— but what if the real magic isn’t in creating more content, but in creating more contentment?

In a world that’s always pushing us forward, Cami Packer says the greatest power move is to slow down and savor what we already have. She shared five thoughtful ideas to help you cultivate contentment in your heart and home.

  1. Make Your House a Home

  • Every home is beautiful in its own way. Find the beauty of your home and train your mind to pause and notice it often.
  • Create a haven of comfort, rest, and belonging. We should feel a sense of relief when we walk through the door.
  • Find joy and purpose in the work that comes with having a home. It’s important, valuable work and adds peace to our lives.
  • Look to your home as your main source of nourishment, enrichment, and entertainment.
  1. Embrace the Season

  • Seasons are, by nature, temporary and will pass. There is something wonderful and something difficult about every season of the year, and every season of life. Fully enjoying and savoring the wonderful things helps us get through the difficult things.
  • Sometimes we all feel lost, and when we fully lean into the season–whatever it may be–we find things that bring us joy, gratitude, and help us find our footing again.
  • Embracing the season means living intentionally and with gratitude each day.
  1. Be a Learner

  • There is something exhilarating about learning something new! One of the best feelings is going to bed knowing something you didn’t know that morning. It doesn’t have to be a big thing, and it doesn’t need to be compared to anyone else’s knowledge or skill. It’s just for you to enjoy and to feel your world expanding little by little.
  • We have access to learn basically any skill we could ever want, but don’t forget to use the real people in your life who have a skill you’d like to get better at. Be willing to generously share your skills too!
  • When we work to be a learner, we can find possibilities and hope in our challenges.
  1. Celebrate a Simple Life

  • Joyfully live on a budget. Using our resources wisely, having discipline, and being grateful for what we have teaches us contentment and creativity!
  • Create little traditions for yourself and your family. It helps create a “celebrating” mindset to have something to look forward to, even if it’s small. Little traditions can help bind us with those we love and create unity.
  • Try to make regular, everyday life feel like a vacation, if only for a few minutes each day. I believe in creating a life that we don’t need to escape from! An ordinary life is something to celebrate and cherish.
  1. Look Beyond Yourself

  • If we are solely focused on ourselves and our own needs and wants, we will never quite be able to feel the contentment we’re seeking. Looking outward and nurturing others in our own unique ways, and truly seeing others can uplift both the nurturer and the receiver.
  • Think of these wise words from Marjorie Pay Hinckley: “There’s not a person you wouldn’t love if you could read their story.” There’s a lot we don’t see about others–even those closest to us–but every person we meet can add value and perspective to our lives when we look beyond ourselves to truly see them.
