Utah Valley Parade of Homes: Simple Elegance

Roxanne Bennett with Utah Valley comes to Studio 5 to talk about some of the trends you’ll be seeing in home design, plus she gives everyone a sneak peak at one of the 28 beautiful homes you’lll be seeing this year.

Two ideas you should remember when thinking about decorating trends …

1) first, this year trends show up in color and design. The trend is simplicity with crisp, clean, light colors … not too fussy … colors are reflected in most of these designs, and best of all, you can use your own individuality …
2) next, you can translate these ideas to your own home,

Featured on today’s show are descriptions of mmaster bedrooms that reflect the trends. Most of these and other great ideas come from www.remodelingcenter.com/bedroomideas/master-bedroom-ideas

"Addition" (Using glass walls to bring the outside indoors):
To take advantage of a wooded view (or any beautiful view) from a room, a master bedroom addition has a wall of glass built, with windows above and, French doors to the side. This creates the look of bringing the outside in and lots of light

"Brick Accent" (Using brick accents as headboards and shelves)
A new brick wall centered behind the master bed serves as a striking focal point. A built-in shelf filled with books and vases provides storage and brings some of the exterior design of a house inside, while lending a softer touch to the brick.

"Light it Up" (Using sheers on windows to bring in light)
Two walls of windows covered with sheers flood this room with light. Only steps from the bed, a limestone-surround fireplace with shelves and cabinets on either side provides easy-access storage and serves as a room divider between the bedroom and the living room. Also notice the bed/legs

"Underbed Storage Drawers" (Avoiding clutter and adding more room)
A headboard niche with recessed reading lights teams with underbed storage drawers to provide storage and display areas without cluttering the bedroom with furniture. Built-in cabinets provide hidden storage for clothes and shoes. Custom storage includes fitted drawers for jewelry.

"Detailed Ceiling" (Window panes on ceiling and using a niche as a headboard)
A detailed ceiling adds sophistication and drama to a transitional master bedroom. Window panes at the top of the bedroom doors mimic rectangles on the ceiling while allowing light into the room. The classic square motif is repeated in the niche at the head of the bed. Notice how the niche is fitted with shallow display shelves on the sdies and lights above.
