There are so many places to help others and the benefits for your children are great.

The Utah Food Bank www.utahfoodbank.org is a great place to start. If you have younger kids you can decorate food boxes that are delivered to homebound elders. You can also take an hour or two and brighten someone’s day by delivering food boxes.

The Candy Cane Corner Holiday Shop www.ywca.com provides homeless clients of the YWCA and The Road Home a chance to shop for new toys and necessities for their families. Your family can take a couple hours to staff the store.

Gather your family together and make blankets for Project Linus, an organization that gathers items for the children living on the Navajo, Ute and Goshute reservations in Utah. Blankets must be homemade, in child-friendly patterns and may be quilted, tied, crocheted, knitted, or fleece. For more information call 801-221-9866 or 801-830-9368.

There are so many people in nursing homes that could use some cheer. Give drawings and pictures to residence or include a card with food deliveries for Meals on Wheels.

Start a giving jar, decorate a jar and keep it in a prominent place in the house. Have your family add money to the jar. When the jar is filled, vote on where the money goes.
