The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to children with life-
threatening medical conditions, and during the Salt Lake Parade of Homes,
several local builders are helping out. Builders have dedicated several
rooms to “Make-A-Wish” children and the rooms are decorated to go along
with the wish of an individual child.
Katherine Fife, from the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Rene Oehlerking,
from Garbett Homes discuss some of the rooms on display at this year’s
parade.
WHAT: Builders are helping raise awareness for the Make-A-Wish
Foundation by designing special rooms in their parade homes that were
inspired by the children and their wishes.
$0.30 per ticket sold will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah,
helping make wishes for children (like those featured throughout the
parade) come true.

WHO: Several Builders participating in the SL Parade of Homes and the Salt
Lake Home Builders Association
Participating builders, including Garbett Homes, Bangerter Homes, Ed
McDonald Homes, Destination Homes, J. Brown Homes, and Rainey Homes
have all voluntarily committed to design theme rooms in their parade
home(s) that reflect wishes granted through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
What they have done is not only helping to honor a special child and their
wish, but they are also helping to raise awareness for the Foundation and
the wonderful wishes that are granted to children with life-threatening
medical conditions. These rooms help show the stories of wishes that are
granted by the Foundation.
The following are the steps taken by the builders. They first voluntarily
chose to have a “Make-A-Wish room” in their Parade home. Then they
selected the child(ren)/wishes they wanted to honor. They got to meet the
child (and their family) to gain inspiration in designing their special room.
And then they design the room. Once the room is complete, they get to
“reveal” the room to the child in a special. For many children, seeing a
room designed in their honor is a special thing. Not only does it help show
how wonderful and inspiring they are – but seeing the room also tends to
bring up the same magical feelings they felt when their wish was granted.
It’s like reminiscing about a special moment in your life and being able to
share it with others.
Parade goers can enjoy viewing these special rooms, where they will also be
able to read about the children and their wishes that helped inspired these
rooms.
In addition, those who purchase tickets to the parade should also know
that they are helping make wishes come true for other deserving children.
30¢ from each ticket sold to the SL Parade of Homes benefits the Make-A-
Wish Foundation of Utah and will help to grant special wishes to children
like the ones spotlighted in the Parade.

threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope,
strength and joy. With the help of generous donors and volunteers, the
Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah granted 137 wishes last year. Located in
its facility in Murray, A Wishing Place, the Foundation offers a quality wish
experience that includes a magical wish-making ceremony in the Wishing
Tower, special wish tokens to throw in a wish fountain, and plenty of room
