Q: Talk about the Dancing Moose experience.

A: This student will experience the basic kindergarten curriculum as established by the Utah state core. The method of achieving this goal will include a lot of hands-on work in an environment prepared for children to explore a variety of materials. Teachers will guide children’s learning and work with children one-on-one, so learning is customized for each individual. Curriculum is individualized and designed to educate the whole child.

Q: What does it mean to “educate the whole child”?

A: The whole child refers to physical, emotional, and cognitive development. Children experience the basics of literacy, math, science and geography, but they also experience dance, yoga, karate, music, and art. On the playground, children receive a driver’s license to ride on a tricycle path, indicating that they understand and abide by the road signs on the tricycle path. They experience dramatic play and learn the value of community by abiding by a social protocol that every individual is important and worthy of friendship. Educating the whole child is an essential goal in early childhood education.

Q: Are there other features that are unique to Dancing Moose?

A: The name Dancing Moose is an indication of our focus on creativity. We encourage children to apply a creative lens to every aspect of their education. We also guide children to a knowledge and appreciation of the beauty of nature. Our 30-foot atrium hallway accommodates a botany curriculum outside of each classroom, and sunlight, which a great deal of research has correlated with increased learning, reflects throughout the building. Our indoor gym is not only functional but is also light and beautiful. The Dancing Moose facility is designed around children’s needs to complement the Montessori curriculum.

Congratulations to April Black, winner of the $5800 Dancing Moose scholarship.
