Dresser to kitchen island?! Find the perfect furniture flip piece by looking for these things

Pull of a furniture flip of your own!

We could stare at the before and afters of furniture makeovers all day. The “wow effect” is impressive, and if the recent resurge has us wanting to roll up our sleeves and take on a project of our own! We get inside the head of a designer and learn the steps.

Do-it-yourselfer Angela Short has a knack for spotting potential and making an old piece useful again. She shares her inspiration for furniture flips.

She shares how she remade an armoire into a smaller hutch. “space is in limited supply right now, homes are smaller. So armoires are out. I look at shape first. If the shape is right and it is real wood, you can always update anything!” Angela says.

She recommends splurge on new hardware and try stripping your wood pieces down to the raw wood. Here are some options for hardware she’s used:

Angela also says it’s all about the mid-century modern. “The wonderful treat is what is under the ugly paint on top of these pieces. These are solid wood and usually have real brass hardware. It has lasted almost a century and will continue to hold up. This furniture is the shape everyone is looking for, the beautiful wood and priced right on those sights. You can find furniture flipper pieces like mine on Instagram. Great unique one of a kind quality!!”

She also encourages us to think outside the box. She turned an older dresser into an island for her kitchen!
