Utah Teacher Dances on TikTok to Raise Money for Student Lunch Debt

You can help this Utah teacher raise money for schools!

Kati Jo Christensen, a special education teacher, has found a unique way to raise money for student lunch debt in Utah. By dancing on TikTok, she has managed to gather significant funds to help alleviate the financial burden on students and their families.

How It Works

Kati Jo explained the process: “If you have a TikTok account and you go onto your TikTok and if one of my videos comes up on your “For You Page,” if you watch for a minute, then that gives me income so that I can take that money and then donate it to school lunches.”

Achievements

As of March 31st, Kati Jo has raised over $17,000. She started this initiative at the end of January and has seen remarkable success in a short period. “I knew that we had a lunch deficit, at least at my school that was $4,000. And so, it started there,” she shared.

Understanding School Lunch Debt

Kati Jo shed light on how school lunch debt works: “Every student, at least in elementary school, is fed lunch no matter what, breakfast or lunch, they can’t be denied. So what happens is if that money is not paid by a parent or somebody who is that person’s guardian, then that debt just builds up.”

Inspiration and Impact

Kati Jo was inspired by other creators who used TikTok to raise money for various reasons. She decided to try it for her school’s lunch deficit and has been successful beyond her expectations. “I hope students know that they have educators that actually care about them and want them to do good as well as that they can do anything if they just put their mind to it and they work really hard,” she said.
