New Movies You’ll Want to See: 6 Big Releases Hitting Theaters Soon

These are the best new movies for summer 2025.

January through March is often considered the off-season for new movie releases, but with May and June approaching, theaters are picking up speed.

Mary Arndt, host of the “I Just Wanna Chat” podcast, shared her recommendations for what to watch in the coming months.

Family-Friendly Movies

How to Train Your Dragon

A live-action remake of the original “How to Train Your Dragon” film is coming from DreamWorks. Mary noted, “It sounds like it’s gonna be more for your like eight and up crowd. I wouldn’t bring your littles to it.”

Lilo and Stitch

A live-action “Lilo and Stitch” is set to release on Memorial Day weekend. Mary says, “It looks really, really cute. I feel like a live action Stitch could have so easily gone scary, but it looks cute!”

Elio

Pixar’s “Elio” is finally coming out after delays. Mary described it as having a similar plot to “Jimmy Neutron.”

Crowd Pleasers

F1

This movie from Apple TV studios stars Brad Pitt and promises to be a visual and audio spectacle. Mary advised, “This is one that you’re going to want to see on the loudest and biggest screen possible.”

Thunderbolts

A new Marvel movie, “Thunderbolts,” is described by Mary as the best thing Marvel has done in the last three or four years. She highlighted its action, humor, and emotional depth.

Romance

The Materialists

Mary’s most anticipated movie is “The Materialists,” a romcom starring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal. She said, “We need more rom coms. This is a really good thing.”
