A Kurt Bestor Christmas

Fast forward two decades to the 20th anniversary of a Kurt Bestor Christmas – a real Christmas Tradition, December 10 through 13. And along with his 20th Anniversary concert, Kurt hopes to create a special dream for one talented singer: the chance to appear with Kurt on stage, plus much more.

The memories of twenty years on the stage at Abravanel Hall during the holiday season will surely be shared, along with many of the favorite compositions and orchestrations which are the hallmarks of all Kurt Bestor Christmases. The fans should also be ready for some new twists and surprises including the announcement of the Bestor’s Best Singer Search. One singer from several auditions across the state will share the stage with Kurt during his Christmas concert this year.

Along with that appearance, “Bestor’s Best” winner will also receive an arrangement by Kurt including a recording session to record that arrangement, and get a trip to Los Angeles with Kurt to meet recording executives. This trip includes air fare and hotel accommodations. It’s a dream come true for someone.

Also, this year’sconcert features one of the nation’s most highly praised classical violinists, Jenny Oaks Baker, who will also join Kurt in a special appearance. Well known to Utah audiences through her recordings and performances with the Utah Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra at Temple Square and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Jenny has also impressed national audiences in appearances at Carnegie at Carnegie Hall, with the Jerusalem Symphony and the San Diego Symphony. Kurt and Jenny will play several pieces together which have been composed specially for this year’s concert.

Of course, the spotlight of the Annual Concert is on Kurt Bestor at the keyboard of the grand piano conducting a remarkable all-star band, an orchestra of Utah’s top professional musicians and the beloved Salt Lake Children’s Choir. There will also be plenty of playful interaction with the audience and unwrapping of some Christmas surprises.
