We can’t wait to make this fall dessert!
It’s one of fall’s favorite fruits. Apples are always on fall’s flavor roll call! These easy apple pastry rings make those Honeycrisps even sweeter. We’re leaning on this recipe as an easy, fruity dessert we can master and make all season.
Our friend Wendy Paul shared the how-to. Wendy likes pairing this recipe with green apples for a tart and sweet flavor profile. Top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of salted caramel for an all-out fall dessert!
Baked Apple Rings
INGREDIENTS
- 1 box puff pastry, cold and thawed
- 3 medium green apples
- Cinnamon & sugar mixture
- 1 egg
- 1″ round cookie cutter
METHOD
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
- Place a sheet of puff pastry on the cutting board, open up to rectangle shape, longest end placed horizontally. Cut 12 slices, equally, shortest length.
- Cut your apple slices, discarding the ends. You’ll want them about 1/4″ thickness. Then with the small cookie cutter, cut the center out of the apple & discard.
- Dip your apple slice into cinnamon sugar and begin to wrap the puff pastry strip around the apple, overlapping a bit is just fine. It will take 2 strips of puff pastry per apple to cover it.
- Once the apple is wrapped, place it on a parchment lined baking sheet and repeat until 12 slices are totally covered.
- Brush an egg wash on top of the pastry, and generously cover the wrapped apples with more cinnamon and sugar mixture.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden and apples are tender. Serve with ice cream and salted caramel sauce.
- Happy Baking!
