Best Family Beach Getaways

Now is the time to make plans to head someplace warmer. If you’ve got a
beach in mind for a Spring Break trip of a summer vacation, the top family
beach getaways can make your trip memorable.

Jennifer Dunyon, from Get Away Today vacations shares her list of the Best
Family Beach Getaways.

Hawaii: Tropical beach paradise is what Hawaii is all about!
My top picks:

  • Waikiki Beach- gentle waves and tons of activities. Plus great
shopping and dining right by the water. Stay at the Royal Hawaiian, also
    known as the Pink Palace.

  • Ko’Olina Beach- Man made lagoons that are wonderful for peaceful
swimming, stand up paddle boarding, and lots of great sand castles. Stay
at the new Disney Aulani, a family Hawaiian paradise!

  • Wailea Beach- I grew up going to this beach every summer. It is
constantly voted one of the top beaches in the world. The Grand Wailea is
my favorite resort there. You won’t want to leave!

San Diego: I always consider San Diego, the Hawaii on the
Mainland. There are so many beautiful beaches in this area, plus tons of
activities. Enjoy SeaWorld, the World Famous San Diego Zoo, take in some
great Mexican food in Old Town, visit the USS Midway, and so much more!

  • My top picks: First off, San Diego is the easiest city to get
around. I would beach hop on your trip!

  • Coronado Beach- Located in front of the famous Hotel del Coronado.
This first gained popularity in 1959 when Marilyn Monroe filmed, “Some
Like it Hot” here. Today, it is one of the most family friendly beaches in
San Diego and was voted the fourth “Best Beach” in the U.S. as well as the
“Best Weekend Getaway Beach” by the Travel Channel. Stay at the luxurious
Coronado Hotel or take a water ferry or drive over for the day.

  • Mission Bay and Mission Beach- I have always loved staying in this
area. The Catamaran Resort and Hyatt Regency are two of my favorite
hotels. Mission Bay and Beach have a boardwalk that you can jog, rent
bikes, rollerblade, or even rent Segways. Our family loves to stay on
Mission Bay and divide our time between the bay and ocean. The bay is
great for kayaking and swimming, the beach is great for sand castles,
    boogie boarding, and people watching.

Carlsbad: Carlsbad has been voted an up and coming family
destination for 2011 and 2012. Legoland is gaining in popularity and has
expanded to include an aquarium and waterpark. There are also great
outlets to shop at and beautiful beaches!

  • My top picks: Lots and lots of shopping at the outlets! A day at
Legoland and the Waterpark. Stay at a beautiful resort and take in the
pools and the beach for a relaxing vacation.

  • Carlsbad State Beach or Tamarack Beach- a 4-mile family-friendly
beach with easy water access. Only about a mile from the Sheraton
Carlsbad. This hotel also offers a beautiful relaxing pool area, spa and
boasts its own private entrance into Legoland.

Huntington Beach– This beach is great for families. It has tons
of restaurants, shopping and resorts that are just across the street from the
ocean. This is also only 12 miles from Disneyland. We just started offering
the Hyatt and Hilton and I can’t wait to stay at them!!! This is perfect for
the Disney fanatic that also wants a beach getaway.
