Big Lips: The Perfect Pout

Holly Mathie with Re-Creation Studio shares secrets to achieving that perfect pout.

I’m constantly asked if it’s possible to achieve “Angelina Jolie” lips without undergoing painful injections. There are hundreds of products on the market that claim to plump, enhance and increase the size and presence of lips, but do lip plumpers really work?

The answer is yes, some do work, although lip plumpers do not make permanent or drastic changes. You have to continually use the products to achieve results. But the results can be fabulous. I have tried many of them and here is what I have found:

There are products with claims to “make blood vessels dilate, which increases blood flow to the lips, deepening your lip color and making lips swell over time”. The one that works the best: Too Faced Lip Injection ($27.95).

Some work by irritating your lips with ingredients like cinnamon, ginger, cayenne pepper, caffeine or menthos. These products give you a bee-stung look and increase the pink tone in your lips. For this look try DuWop Venom Gloss ($18.00).

Some products only have moisturizing ingredients that smooth the lips. And some are more like a makeup base – when lipstick is applied over them, your lips look fuller. Try Origins Underwear for Lips ($13.50).

Others claim that they “contain collagen ingredients” or will “help to stimulate” collagen. In theory, this triggers the production of more collagen, which then makes lips plump. Try PHATTENUP ($28.00).

My lip plumper of choice is Brenda Christian’s PHATTENUP. It is creamy-not sticky like many and boosts hydration. I have noticed a distinct difference in my lips as they are fuller and softer.

For a 5% discount + free shipping on Phattenup, go to www.brendachristian.com. Buy the product and in the special instructions section, write the code HOLLYM. When you check out, you will not see the discount applied. Don’t worry! The company has this code flagged and will only charge your card the discounted price.

Keep in mind, lip plumping products are generally safe to consider, however I recommend the ones with irritants or which make the blood vessels dilate should be used infrequently. Repeatedly applying a product which irritates the lips can lead to undesired problems that may seem worse than simply living with lips that are less than full.

Achieving Bigger Lips with Make-Up:

• Use a lipstick base or a lip plumper

• Line slightly outside your natural lip line

• Use a medium shade of lipstick. Too dark will be too obvious, too light will fade away. Instead of mocha or nude, try spice. Instead of red or pink, try rose. Instead of orange or coral, try tangerine.

• Put a high shine gloss all over your lips

POUT PRETTY!
