We’re going to start this season with a fresh wardrobe. If you’re ready to update your closet with pieces that feel effortlessly stylish and totally on trend, your style upgrade starts right here.
Studio 5 Style & Fashion Contributor Casey Matheny broke down must-have wardrobe staples for the upcoming spring season. These are styles you can find just about anywhere that will make getting dressed in the morning a little bit easier.
Lighter Layers and Colors
Spring is all about embracing lighter layers and colors. It’s time to shed the heavy winter layers and pick out pieces that bring a sense of freshness. Whether it’s white pants or lighter layers, the goal is to feel the lightness of the new season.
The Versatile Button-Up
One of the key pieces for spring is the oversized button-up. Casey loves this piece because it is casual, yet polished. “It’s cool and easy and light, but still elevated,” she emphasized. The beauty of the button-up is its versatility. You can find them in several colors and patterns. When choosing a button-up, look for materials that are crisp and slightly heavier to avoid excessive wrinkling. Casey recommended cotton over linen for everyday wear, as it holds up better after washing.
Classic Trench Coats
Trench coats are another staple for spring. They are timeless pieces that can be worn for years. “ This is one that you could invest in because you’re going to have it for years and years to come,” Casey emphasized. She highlighted two styles: the long classic trench and the cropped trench. The long trench in classic camel is a must-have, while the cropped version is perfect for pairing with bulkier bottoms. Trench coats are great for the unpredictable spring weather, making it a stylish layer whether it’s rainy or snowy.
Tailored Pants
Tailored pants are a great addition to any spring wardrobe since they are so versatile. “They are not as heavy or constricting as denim,” Casey said, and can be dressed up or down.
She suggested pairing tailored pants with a tee, sweater, button-up, or blazer. For a more casual look, she recommended wearing them with sneakers. “ They’ve just got so much diversity within them, and they’re comfy. They feel like pajama pants,” Casey said.
Fun with Colored Sneakers
Colored sneakers are a fun trend that adds a pop of color to any outfit. Casey noted that while white sneakers are still essential, adding a pair of colored sneakers can elevate your look. She even likes to think of them as “pseudo neutrals” that can be paired with lots of different outfits. “ They seem really bright and hard to work with… but it’s just gonna bring this fun,” Casey said.
