Don’t judge a beauty buy by the packaging! 5 that are worth they try

These beauty buys deserve a second look.

Look past pretty packaging to find items that may not seem like a fit at first glance, but are worth a try!

Studio 5 Style & Beauty Contributor Megan Moore shared five products that fit that criteria.

It’s easy to judge a product by its packaging, but sometimes that can be deceiving. “Sometimes the packaging is actually not too pretty. It’s like not great packaging, and you’re like, ‘oh, that doesn’t look for me,'” Megan said.

There are a lot of brands that focus on products that will be universally flattering, but at first glance, it might not seem that way. “ I always say experiment, swatch, try new things. Don’t be turned off by that first glimpse,” Megan emphasized.

Clinique Black Honey Lipstick

One standout product that Megan highlighted was Clinique’s Black Honey Lipstick. Despite the dark pigment, it will work on any skin tone. “ There’s a difference between pigment and formula,” Megan explained. “Even though the pigment in that product looks really, really dark, the formula that it sits in is very, very sheer.” When you combine the two you get something that is in between.

Megan really likes the Almost Lipstick formula of Black Honey. It’s beautifully sheer and works on all skin tones. “ Don’t judge it by its cover. There’s a reason it sells so well and it’s been around that long – because it’s awesome,” Megan said.

pH Changing Blush

Megan also shared the pH changing blush by Catrice. “ I will always pick up these when I see them,” she said.

At first glance, it might seem way too bright or gimmicky. But, the balm itself is clear. “ Once you swipe it on your hand, it reacts to the pH in your skin, and so you get a flush of color that’s perfect for you,” Megan noted. Everyone gets a slightly different result since skin pH is different for everyone.

Underglow Primer

Megan recommended the underglow primer by Iconic London. “We’ve seen this huge explosion of all these shimmery  primers,” Megan said. “I haven’t found one that I’ve really loved and I’ve kind of given up on it until this one.”

Unlike other shimmery primers, this one has a blurring effect, making it a great choice for mature skin. “It’s going to give you that glow, but it’s not shiny,” Megan said. This primer gives you a subtle, radiant finish without a lot of shimmer.

Veil Powders

Morphe’s veil powders show a shift away from traditional loose setting powders. These pressed powders are thinner and less pigmented, giving a more soft, filtered look. “They’re almost like you had a beauty filter on your skin,” Megan described.

This new style of setting powder gives a lightweight, natural finish. “Iit’s not as oil absorbing, it’s not as heavy as a traditional powder,” Megan explained.

L’Oreal Amber Rush Cream Shadow

L’Oreal’s cream shadow is a hidden gem that you might overlook with its plain packaging. “ This is one of their number one selling eyeshadows of all time,” Megan said. “This color in particular, Amber Rush, works for everybody.”

This eyeshadow is 24-hour wear and is waterproof. “ If you’re on vacation and you go swimming, you can swim in this magic eyeshadow and it will stay on,” Megan emphasized.
