We’re celebrating Easter by sharing other’s traditions!
Easter is a time of peace, renewal, and love. To help you fully experience the joy this season offers, we are sharing traditions and practices that can enhance your holiday and help you celebrate the true reason for the season.
Podcast Host David Butler added his voice to the conversation by sharing his favorite Easter tradition.
The Importance of Deliberate Celebration
David emphasized the importance of being deliberate during the Easter season. He noted that Easter can be tricky because it changes every year, unlike fixed holidays like Christmas or birthdays. This variability requires a conscious effort. “It’s our traditions that make a day on the calendar turn into something special,” he said.
Creating Purposeful Traditions
David and his family have developed various traditions to make Easter purposeful. One of their favorite traditions is an Easter advent, similar to the Christmas countdown with chocolates. However, David’s most cherished tradition involves a sunrise ritual.
The Sunrise Ritual
Every Easter morning, David wakes up before sunrise to read John chapter 20, which describes Mary arriving at the tomb just before the rising of the sun. He then writes down his Easter testimony, reflecting on his beliefs about Easter and Jesus for that year. This letter is copied and placed in his children’s Easter baskets as a special gift.
David’s children cherish these letters, keeping them as treasured possessions. This tradition has become a meaningful part of their Easter celebration, highlighting the importance of creating and maintaining family traditions. “Several of my kids said, ‘That’s my greatest treasure that I have is your collection of testimonies,'” he described.
The Message of Easter
David shared that the message of Easter offers hope to anyone going through a difficult time. Despite the darkness and devastation of Good Friday and Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday brings the promise of renewal and change. He emphasized, “No matter what your story may look like right now, it doesn’t have to stay that way. If death isn’t final, then what else isn’t final?”
